Mechanical Design Engineer

New Providence, NJ

Job Description

The mechanical design engineer will develop mechanical systems, components, sub-assemblies and thermal solutions for 5G active antenna and radio products.  This includes weather-proof die cast and sheet metal enclosures, cable interfaces, thermal design, and mounting systems.

Responsibilities include

  • Development of SolidWorks models of enclosure, PCBAs, wiring, interfacing, hardware, and spatially sensitive components
  • Perform detailed thermal design and analysis using heat load and dissipation models and design improvements including high performance free-air convection thermal management
  • Design or propose changes as needed to improve form, fit or function of the assembly such as mechanical interferences, field reliability, tolerance studies, product weight
  • Execute stress models on mechanical design including wind and solar loading
  • Design suitable assembly and test fixtures for sub-assemblies capable of being used in high-volume test production environment
  • Create and update design documentation packages to be used by product engineers and contract manufacturers
  • Technical supply chain support for manufacturing of product including sourcing and qualifying new components
  • Create and execute appropriate test plans to validate mechanical and thermal designs

Preferred Experience

  • Detailed knowledge of outdoor wireless equipment environmental specifications and design solutions
  • Proven experience using SolidWorks or similar mechanical/thermal design and analysis tools
  • Experience in developing techniques and designing EMI/EMC compatible shielding of sub-assemblies in sensitive RF circuit environments
  • Demonstrated track record delivering quality products in multiple complete development cycles for high volume outdoor wireless equipment
  • Experience in DFx techniques particularly related to Design for Manufacturability
  • Willingness to sometimes do work outside of normal job duties described
  • Occasional travel to supplier and/or customer locations
  • Experience with the support of contract manufacturing
  • Experience in use of product lifecycle management tools including engineering change orders, BOM creation and change management
  • Ability to work in a small team


An undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering is required. A Master’s degree is strongly preferred
